COGNITIVE BEHAVIOURAL HYPNOTHERAPY IN CHELMSFORD, ESSEX
Hypno-CBT® (HCBT) is one among several systems of cognitive-behavioural hypnotherapy.
It is not simply “hypnotherapy plus CBT”,
HCBT is an integration of social, cognitive and behavioural psychology with traditional hypnotism.
It is based upon various established models of theory and practice which pre-date the development of modern cognitive-behavioural therapy (CBT).
HCBT embraces the principles of evidence-based theories and practices.
Evidence-based medicine is considered the way forward in selecting treatments for clients in the NHS and there is no reason why therapists should not do the same.
There are many studies on the most effective types of psychotherapy and also on the most effective therapeutic methods and techniques
Cognitive therapies, CBT and hypnotherapy have scored as the most effective therapies in meta-analysis of psychotherapies (meta-analysis is where researchers look at several hundred research studies to find overall evidence for effectiveness across a range of studies.)
Obtaining a clear and measurable treatment goal for a client is essential.
Failure to agree on what you, as the client, is seeking treatment for can lead the therapist to focus on what they believe you need help with.
Subjective self-assessment of emotional distress, anxiety etc. help to give measures which can be reviewed and re-assessed during the course of treatment and towards the end of treatment.
Often as a client you can sometimes fail to recognise and acknowledge the improvements you have made.
Being able to show that on a self-assessment a you now feel 60% less anxious and 70% less irritable or angry - gives you sense of progress and confidence of your self efficacy.
As your hypnotherapist I am interested in finding your 'maintaining' behaviour and beliefs, whereas some therapists believe that a past event/trauma is what is causing you to think and behave in a way that is causing you distress and until they find that event in your past and heal it/stop repressing it, you can't release that feeling and move on.
There may have been events in your past that have triggered the thoughts, beliefs that you find so difficult to deal with, but I am more interested in why these negative and destructive thoughts are ongoing beliefs for you.
Therefore we simply need to identify the belief and adopt a more helpful one - we don't always need to go back to the original event but we can become aware of the negative and destructive thoughts and of how they are effecting our immediate experience.
Evidence Based Hypnotherapy
There are many and varied approaches to Hypnotherapy, I have focused intentionally on purely evidence-based practice.
This means I do not practice disciplines that are as yet unable to provide satisfactory evidence for their efficacy.
The methods I use are long-established, peer-reviewed interventions and are aligned with the conclusions of, among others, the British Psychological Society, the British Medical Association and the American Medical Association.
The Diploma I have been awarded, Cognitive-Behavioural Hypnotherapy ( CBH) is accredited by the National Council for Hypnotherapy, the General Hypnotherapy Register, the Register for Evidence-Based Hypnotherapy and Psychotherapy and approved by the British Psychological Society.
Hypnotherapy and Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy are proven effective psychotherapeutic approaches in their own right. Cognitive-Behavioural Hypnotherapy has been shown to be an even more effective and long-lasting approach than either individual method.
